FROM CITY TO COUNTRY
[From San Francisco to Arcata--
From Boy to Man For Good--
Having Put Away Childish Things]
A Poem
(Written in 1998)
Wanderer of heart and soul that I be
I had to emerge from the great city
To the country when I was but a boy
For the unnaturalness of the irrationality
And the cities atmospheres of total decay
Caused my mind to desire to be free
From all the colossal insensitivity
That is so rampant with no pity
In such large places so un-pretty
And led me to seek and find only
Natural vastness, joy and beauty
From then on to be completely free
Of the very imprisonment of the monstrosity
For the lasting peace of the country
And only expanding vistas of purity
That even still my "restlessness-ity"
Towards that to please and satisfy
Has not been able to truly free
My longing to assuage or pacify
And find final peace from the necessity.
